Within months of reaching his black belt, Pedro Marinho beat world-renowned grapplers, including Cyborg, at the Int’l no-gi IBJJF 2021. He won both the open class and heavyweight divisions at the event, which was held in October.

Marinho has been an athlete since childhood. He played a variety of sports including soccer, surfing and martial arts, which eventually led to the combat sport ‘Capoeira’ at the mere age of 7. 10 years later, he discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Marinho became a famous personality in the BJJ community when he won a purple belt. He won first place at no-gi events like the Jitz King and Elite Grappling. His opponents were black belts even at that time, including Oliver Taza, which gave him considerable recognition.

At the start of his career, Marinho worked with Reinaldo Fernandos from the Brazilian Top Team. 4 years later, he decided to apply for the FP Golden Team where he could get a scholarship and continue training in Brazil. After a competitive selection process comprising over 1000 applicants, Pedro was selected. During these years, he remained under the guidance of Reinaldo Fernandos. It was from this association that he connected with Ulpiano Malachias.

Malachias offered to train Marinho at his own gym in Texas. Marinho agreed and gained more experience to boost his career. By 2018, he had earned his brown belt and 3 years later, he achieved his black belt.

Marinho is currently a middleweight, and his favorite technique is the Guillotine.
